We have read this several times over!

Do your children know that Christmas was a rescue mission so that people could be friends with God? Through this Advent storybook, you can introduce your little ones to the loving God, the Savior of mankind, and the meaning of His birth. 25 engaging 1-minute stories, spanning the entire Bible, will make sharing the true meaning of Christmas with your little ones a simple and fun task, for even the most fidgety of kids.

With 5 kids 6 and under, I’m all about quick and engaging, but often the message is lost in brevity. Natasha and Brianna do a fantastic job of keeping the truths simple and the pictures colorful, with so much to look at and hear, my kids were fascinated with each page and wanted to read the whole book in one sitting {we may have done just that quite a few times}. There’s even a fun little bug for kids to search for on each page!

If you’re looking for a beautifully illustrated book, that speaks of God’s love and truth to little ones, that won’t devolve into a session of telling kids to “sit still” and “pay attention”…this is the book for you!

A bigger look at the Christmas story - great for all ages!

I absolutely love this book. She was dead on when she said this was written for busy moms! Each day's story is just the right length to reflect the substance and richness of each part of the entire story of God sending Jesus for us but also short enough to hold my 3 year old's attention. I can't wait until she is older and we can expand each story by using the "learn more" section at the end of the book. I'm grateful Natasha took the time and care to put together a book that is beautiful, well written, and understandable by children and adults. I enjoy reading it as well and read it on my own first before reading it with my children, something I don't often do with things aimed at kids. It was a breath of fresh air into a story that I've seemingly heard hundreds of times...yet I loved having a fresh perspective and a bigger look at the entire story as God intended us to see Christmas as. Thanks for a great Christmas book!!!

Finding the little bugs was such a fun addition to each day's reading

This book exceeded my already high expectations. The simple stories speak to my own heart and interest my two year old at the same time! THe art is gorgeous and the words so filled with hope and joy--and the journey through the redemption story is exactly what I want to make the focus of our holidays. Finding the little bugs was such a fun addition to each day's reading. This book was definitely a winner in our house and one I am excited to share with family and friends.

Informative

Another good book by Rujuta after her first book 'Don't lose your mind lose your weight'. The author has explained in detail on how understanding the various energy systems can help us distinguish between which energy system to employ to gain the changes in our body we desire. I thought understanding terms like epoc/afterburn is useful towards understanding the type of exercise one should do to have a fit body for life and does not need to stop after just losing a few pounds. The author emphasizes on fitness being a long term activity and not just end with getting a flat stomach which one anyway cannot sustain without treating exercise as a part of life. I recommend every one desirous of getting a good, fit body to read this book.

Having said the above, and being a marathoner myself, I have to say I disagree on the author's criticism of the new breed of aspiring Indian runners running a marathon in what she thinks to be a longish 5 hours. Running a marathon by working professionals like us itself Is a big win for us. We do not aspire to run a marathon in 2.5 hours like elite runners as we do not go through the kind of training they do. However the book on the whole is engaging and a very good read. Go ahead and read it!

Nice book which has simple yet informative knowledge about fitness. Another well written book by Rujuta. The only reason it is not a 5 star is because there is a small section which get's a bit too technical with chemistry; which someone who is not from a science background might not grasp that well. Overall, definitely worth a read.

Random number algorithms

Software developers will find this book very useful. It gives a thorough introduction to the types of RNGs available (linear congruential, lagged Fibonacci, etc.), as well as a thorough analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of each. The math is complete, but not intimidating. Algorithms are included for sampling from many different types of distributions (Beta, Weibull, etc.). A helpful discussion of generating independent streams of random numbers (i.e., on parallel processors or machines) is included.
Also useful: a chapter on assessing the quality of RNGs, discussions of Gibbs and Latin Hypercube sampling, and bootstrapping.
This book is "non-denominational". Many MC books focus on simulation in particular fields (such as physics). The focus here is on the science of random numbers itself.
This short book has been extremely helpful in my implementation of Monte Carlo methods. The first 40 pages are virtually a daily reference for me. Any developer needing assistance and understanding of the types of random number generators available will find this small book extremely helpful.

Shea—who at age 20 was the drug boss for South Boston Irish mobster James "Whitey" Bulger and later served 12 years in federal prison for drug trafficking (yes, he was given the opportunity to rat, but, "like a man," he didn't)—gives gangster honor a bare-knuckled workout in his memoir, a slick read dripping with the underworld holy trinity of sex, drugs and violence. Born in 1965 into a "fucked up family" in South Boston, Shea traded a foundering boxing career for a gig making $4,000 a night selling cocaine and marijuana. Before long, Bulger took him under his wing and, being a tough and honorable guy, Shea ascended the ranks and had a crew working for him before he was busted and did his time. To hear Shea tell the story, he's about the only guy in South Boston who can keep his trap shut—including Bulger, who turned rat and is now in hiding—once the cuffs are on. EASILY the worst of the whole Whitey/Southie genre

I am SO glad I read this via a library and didn't pay a cent for it! Johnny Shea is the ultimate example of the self-serving, ignorant Southie project product. Absolutely NO redeeming value to Shea or his fictions. An embarassing project, one which should never have been put to publication. In a world of insecure, self-important criminals attempting to cash in on their connections to Bulger, Shea stands apart as uniquely loathsome. A MUST not-read.

In The Southie/Irish Mob Genre, This Is Only Okay

If you're just getting into what has now become a genre of Irish/Southie/True Crime books, definitely start with the ones done by the writer/reporters, ie, Black Mass, Westies, and Paddy Whacked - books with multiple sources and footnotes and everything - instead of the biographies. I've now read all the Southie books except for Kevin Weeks', which I'm only kind of looking forward to after this one and Pat Nee's. This is the conclusion I have come to.

If you're just interested in this book, it is, essentially, one big self-inflicted ego stroke minus numerous details that would have added to the intrigue of the tale. There are almost no interesting, well-developed or enlightening stories aside from the tales of prison life.

The biggest thing I came away with from this book is that Shea feels the need to tell you how tough he is at least once in every single chapter. Frankly, it gets tiresome and takes away from the story. Shea turns from a would be protagonist (if you buy into the "admirable" qualities the main character portrays) into someone you hope will at least bring something redeeming to the table in the end. It doesn't happen.

This one had potential. Unfortunately, the egomania, the lack of details, and the lack of developed stories take away from the impact.

As mentioned, read the compilation books first, followed by All Souls (truly excellent), Street Soldier (what this book could have been, ie, very authentic and interesting, even if horrifying), and A Criminal and An Irishman (Nee, it seems, is one of the only genuine stand-up guys). From there, the rest are pretty much the same.

About the Author
Henry David Thoreau was an American author, poet, and philosopher, who is best known for his works Waldena treatise about living in concert with the natural worldand Civil Disobedience, in which he espoused the need to morally resist the actions of an unjust state. Thoreau s work heavily reflects the ideologies of the American transcendentalists, and he has long been considered a leading figure in the movement along with Ralph Waldo Emerson, Bronson Alcott, and, at first, Nathaniel Hawthorne (who changed his views later in life). In addition to his writing, which totaled more than twenty volumes, Thoreau was an active abolitionist, and lectured regularly against the Fugitive Slave Law. Thoreau died in 1862, and is buried along with Louisa May Alcott, Ellery Channing, and other notable Americans in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts.
