Improvements - Good! Pontification - Not Good!

Mr. Chalice has written an extremely informative guide for healthcare professionals and Lean practitioners in healthcare. His 46 steps are fairly well organized and he has several excellent appendices and resources quoted. However, his 40-page pontification on what is broken in healthcare (Chapter 1) is much too long. Don't get me wrong... he sends some excellent messages and states many facts that need to be stated. The problem is that he could have been just as effective in about 15-20 pages. He spends far too much time on the topic and also far too much time on his Democratic view of how government can/should fix the problems. Other than the political agenda/slant in chapter 1, the rest of the book is pretty informative and helpful.

Chalice nails down the problem and solution

Healthcare is broken and everyone knows it. What Robert Chalice identifies in this improvement book are the specifics of the problem and the steps to corrective measures, including cutting costs (while improving quality) by using lean practices. I found this book both well researched and useful. It is now more important than ever we are able to pull costs (waste) out of the system. Even a well-oiled machine has many parts that need grease. This book should be required reading of any healthcare practitioner and those involved in the policy debate.

Featuring 35 contributions from leading specialists, researchers, and theorists in a variety of relevant fields, chapters are structured around themes that include archaeology of ritual, embodiment, experiences, creating spaces of experiences, designing and appropriating sacred space, sharing public space, expressiveness, and agents and transformations.

Collectively, chapters serve to shape our understanding of the role of objects in cultural practices of constructing religion and encountering and appropriating such a religion as objectified representations of the sacred. About the Author

Rubina Raja is Professor of Classical Archaeology at Aarhus University, Denmark. She has published widely on religious identities in the eastern Roman provinces, and is editor of the series Contextualising the Sacred, Lived Ancient Religion, and Palmyrenske Studier. She is the author of the monograph Urban Development and Regional Identity in the Eastern Roman Provinces, 50 BC – AD 250: Aphrodisias, Ephesos, Athens, Gerasa. She is currently working on a monograph on the religious life of the Tetrapolis region.

Jörg Rüpke is Professor of History of Religion at the University of Erfurt, Germany and director of the ERC Research Group “Lived Ancient Religion.” His books include Domi militiae (1990); Rituals in Ink (2004); Religion and Law in Classical and Christian Rome (2006); (ed.) About the Author
Chad Westra, author and golf instructor was born and raised in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Chad is a 1990 graduate of the San Diego Golf Academy and has been a professional teacher for over 20 years. In 2006 he was recognized by Golf Magazine as a top instructor. Chad started Ultimate Golf & Academy in 1997, and in the year 2000, a twenty two acre facility was built to accommodate golf lessons, a golf shop, heated golf bays, mini golf and banquet facilities. Many years ago his grandfather Andy first introduced him to the game of golf. To this day he still remembers his grandpa teaching him the grip on the sixth hole of The Milton Golf Course in Alexandria, Minnesota. Chad now resides in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with his wife Kirstin and their three children; Tyler, Alex and Abbigail. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, landscaping and building just about anything with a hammer or shovel.

Last Lesson

I am currently utilizing the hitting way of golf as written by Chad Westra. I wish I had met the author earlier in my golf career, so that I could have enjoyed the game longer than the 4 years since I started this Hitting Method. I just finished reading The Ultimate Way and found it a great refresher to get back to enjoying lower scores again this year.
When you utilize this method of hitting the golf ball you WILL ask your self why other instructors never showed you this perfect HIT. Being 60 y/o I have taken lessons from 10 different instructors and never came away satisfied that those lessons could be repeated on the course. The Ultimate Way hitting method is used on every club in your bag.
This book is a great value for all golfers.

This is the best value you will find to improve your game. Like the book will teach you, stop swinging at the ball and HIT it. This book will simplify your approach to striking a golf ball. By learning four simple steps to hitting the golf ball, you will become more consistent, lower your scores and enjoy golf for the great game it is. All of the mind games are a thing of the past once you read and practice the Ultimate Way. I stopped golfing for 6 years due to frustration and not knowing where to turn. After learning the Ultimate Way, I was back to enjoying the game within a month. Today my worst days on the course are still better than my best days before finding The Ultimate Way. This is the best thing I have ever done for my game.

Absolutely the best $14.95 I have ever spent! I enjoyed golfing in my younger years, but got away from it the last 10 years or so. When I started back up recently, I was very frustrated with the game and it was like I was a first-time golfer all over again! I wanted to find a simple approach to "hitting" a golf ball, and that led me to Chad and his book "The Ultimate Way Golf Method". Now I am enjoying golf again, and making great strides in my golf game every week with a clear mind!

Catherine Ann Jones holds a graduate degree in Depth Psychology and Archetypal Mythology from Pacifica Graduate Institute where she has also taught. "Writing is the greatest therapy I know."

I had the good fortune to take a journal writing workshop with the playwright and screenwriter Catherine Ann Jones. In the course of the four-day workshop, I filled several composition books with enthusiastic notes from her teachings and wild revelations prompted by her focused journal writing exercises.

Much to my great delight, Catherine Ann Jones' new book, "Heal Your Self with Writing," distills everything I scribbled in my notebooks, and reminds me again how journaling can help us to see our life story from a more cosmic, universal perspective. I have many inspiring writing books but what makes this one stand out is that the author holds a graduate degree in Depth Psychology and Archetypal Mythology. She consciously incorporates her understanding of psychological processes into her writing exercises. In addition, she studied ancient Shamanic practices which are also reflected in her holistic approach to writing as a healing art.

Catherine Ann Jones makes the critical point that while psychological techniques may help us to uncover our deepest feelings and source of trauma and pain, they sometimes are not enough to lead us through the deeper journey of transformation. Heal Yourself with Writing offers a step-by-step process of self-understanding through focused journal writing. As a lifelong journal writer myself, I have learned how telling stories about our past can liberate us, and put the past where it belongs---behind us--but without repressing or denying it!

In the final chapter, "Looking Back, Growing Forward," she writes: "Throughout this book, you have learned that it is possible to re-vision your life. You have embraced and integrated the opposites that live within us all, and experienced standing in the light while facing the dark. You have acquired new tools of dialoguing with the soul and other focused journaling techniques. You have traveled a shamanic journey and communicated with spirit and ancestral guides that will continue to walk by your side. You have transcended the archetype of your birth by exploring and expanding your own personal myth. Further, you have learned that trauma can be overcome with imagination by going beyond traditional psychology. And finally you have looked back and integrated the lessons of the past in order to grow forward."

Best book I have read in a very long time

Folks, there are hundreds of writing books out there - this is the only one I have found to be valuable. This has exercises that not only heal your emotional wounds, but will improve your skills as a writer. I wish I had read this before writing my own books! I am so thankful for Catherine Ann Jones and her gift as a writer and healer.

A guidebook for engaging your authentic self

A lovely and loving guidebook for those seeking to uncover and engage with their inmost, authentic selves. Catherine's focused journal-writing exercises offer gentle invitations and pathways for dropping deeply into our inner knowing places, listening to our souls, transforming our wounds, bringing light into our stuck places and opening to, as she calls them, the invisibles - the energies of spirit guardians that are always ready to support us in our journeying. Vignettes from her own lifelong inner and spiritual work thread richly through the pages. So, too, do a broad range of resonating, pithy quotations from sources as varied as Yogi Berra and the Upanishads.
