It would be easy to refuse, stay at home, finish that pile of ironing, and then answer some work emails. The thought of being so organised alone brings a smile to her face. But with the encouragement of her best friend, she bites the bullet and goes all out. Bye-bye ironing, hello gorgeous man. She doesn’t know where this Kelly has been, but she quite likes her, and she doesn’t plan on misplacing her again.

Short, Sharp and Sassy with the added feel-good factor of supporting a good cause!

Firstly i want to stress two points, Number 1, this is a very short story at 5K words and number 2....I don't care about point 1! Jodi has a way of suckering you into a story from the first line to the very last that refuses to be restricted by something as fractious or mundane as a ''word count''.
This is a rather enlightening tale about a woman who has lost her ''joie de vivre'' for life, she no longer craves the adrenaline from a first kiss, or the heart stopping moment before you first make eye contact with a man you desire, instead, she found her fulfillment in more mundane tasks, she'd lost the will to chase excitement! But have no fear...all of that is about to change!
I absolutely adored the premise for this book and with a surprising twist at the end, it was a fun filled fast read where you get the bonus of helping out a very worthy cause!
ALL PROCEEDS ARE GOING TO THE EVE APPEAL....
Let me just pause for a moment and fill you in on what this cause is about...The Eve Appeal is a female cancer charity that was formed in 2002, they raise money to fund research into all forms of gynaecological cancer.

Its a cute little story and I mean "a little bit of a story" .

It's a donation for a great cause I had to remind myself after I finished the small story, just try to keep that in mind and remember that this is what this very ,very short story is truly for as I did as well because you blink and it is over.Love giving to causes that help so I'm not upset at all but this is seriously the shortest read ever for me.It's a intriguing little read ,it reminded me very much of a"Modern Family" Valentine's Day eposide with Claire and Phil minus the humor of course. It's just a  surprising sweet little read, there's no sex scenes, there is just a lead up and a endearing ending but again it is seriously only a chapter long at best.The author wrote a quick little story with a twist that made me smile , and that is exactly what this read is in a nutshell ,and since 100 percent of the profits are going to a wonderful cause your money for this little read is well spent.

Best book on drawing

One of the best drawing books I've ever worked through. Perhaps because the author is a professor of oriental art he has a completely different approach to the topic of how to draw. Using this book is not like working through an instructional manual. He tells you how to look at things how to see -how to see relationships -to think about what your pencil or ink or charcoal is doing on the page. He suggests certain activities but does not proscribe in detail: for example, try drawing lines right to left, which feels awkward to anyone like me who writes from left to right, but opens up a whole new prospect for making marks.
He uses his own artwork and examples from artists around the world to illustrate his ideas.
I found this languishing in my local village library and had to get it.

About the Author
Charles W. Kegley is currently serving on the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs. A past President of the International Studies Association, Kegley holds the title of Pearce Distinguished Professor of International Relations Emeritus at the University of South Carolina. A graduate of the American University (B.A.) and Syracuse University (Ph.D.) and a Pew Faculty Fellow at Harvard University, Kegley previously served on the faculty at Georgetown University, and has held visiting professorships at the University of Texas, Rutgers University, the People's University of China, and the Institute Universitaire de Hautes Études Internationales Et du Developpement in Geneva Switzerland. He is also a recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award of the Foreign Policy Analysis Section of the International Studies Association. A founding partner of Kegley International, Inc. (a publishing, research, and consulting foundation), Kegley has authored more than 50 scholarly books (and over 100 articles in journals), including co-authorship with Gregory A. Raymond for Cengage of five editions of The Global Future, as well as with Eugene R. Wittkopf seven editions of American Foreign Policy: Pattern and Process.

Eugene R. Wittkopf was the R. Downs Poindexter Professor Emeritus at Louisiana State University (LSU). He also held appointments at the University of Florida and the University of North Carolina. He received his doctorate from The Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs at Syracuse University. He published more than thirty books on international politics and foreign policy and several dozen refereed articles in professional journals and chapters in books. He held offices in professional associations and served on the editorial boards of numerous profession journals. In 2002 he received the Distinguished Scholar Award of the Foreign Policy Section of the International Studies Association. Earlier, Professor Wittkopf was named the 1996 Distinguished Research Master of Arts, Humanities, and Social Studies at Louisiana State University. This is the highest award given by the LSU in recognition of faculty contributions to research and scholarship.

Memorable Textbook

I read an earlier paperback edition of this textbook for my class in Intl. Relations at Northwestern University in 1987. Somehow it was misplaced since then, but I never forgot it. My 15 year old son has expressed an interest in learning more about the world than what he is fed in school, so I ordered a new copy, and now he's reading it. The book covers all aspects of the post WWII world order, which still governs most of what takes place today.

My only complaint about this text, and why I did not give it five stars, is that it seems to be a bit idealistic about what can be done to solve the world's problems. As a student, I actually believed that diplomacy, the UN, other NGO's etc. could substantially change the tendency toward using violence to solve disputes. And that reducing north-south inequality was an important key to this. East-west tensions were supposed to be reduced by negotiation. While that has been true to a small degree, the past 20 years have been shaped by nations acting in their own economic and military self-interest and a sharp rise in sectarian violence. And the cold war was won by the West economically, not by some negotiated settlement with communism. The end of the cold war also unleashed dozens of formerly quiescent nationalist movements.

I don't think Kegley and Wittkopf address these issues adequately. They don't take into account basic human nature and historic inevitability of conflict. Also, the push for impossible north-south equality and first world guilt is annoying. Trade is far better than aid. Many many more countries in the south are moving from dependency to industrialization, reducing the legacy of colonialism, and hence the importance of north-south wealth transfers.

Still, the ideals behind attempts to move toward a more benevolent world order are worth pursuing, and this book is an excellent introduction of those concepts. It's important to keep the authors' bias in mind, however, because history has not been kind to idealists. (Even in the fictional 24th century "United Federation of Planets," there are still wars to be fought.)

Regardless of these shortcomings, this book was a vital part of my education. Highly recommended.

Good introduction

I purchased this book because it was recommended for a test I was taking. I really liked it. This book does have a bit of a liberal bias, so beware if you are offended by that sort of thing. It didn't bother me. The reason I liked this book most is because it really kept the focus on WORLD politics, and emphasized how quickly each country affects others on areas of the environment, economics, and cultures. I feel like I understand my country's foreign policy and globalization much more than ever before.

Great reminder calendar!

This calendar has been a life saver. Each January I used to transfer all of the birthdays for family and friends to my new calendar... what a waste of time. This birthday reminder calendar is great because you write everyone down 1 time and put it next to your current year calendar, flip over with each consecutive month & you never will forget a birthday again. Love it! The only downfall is that the lines to write people's names on is somewhat small so if you have 2 or more people with the same birthdate, you have to write very small.

Beautiful, artistic, and fun to look at!

I bought this birthday calendar for my daughter so that she could have an easy way of remembering her family's and friends' birthdays. She wrote their names and their birth year at the correct date, and we've hung it in her room. A friend of mine who is an elementary school teacher purchased several also to give to her teacher friends.

I think this is a perfect gift for a child, as well as an ideal teacher gift. The pictures are beautiful, and the glimmering designs make them extra attractive!

About the Author
Michael Kort is professor of social science at Boston University's College of General Studies. He received his B.A. in history from Johns Hopkins University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Russian history from New York University. He is the author of several books on the history of the Soviet Union and the Cold War, including "The Soviet Colossus: History and Aftermath" (sixth edition, 2006) and "The Columbia Guide to the Cold War" (1998).

Very fine

As I read this book, I wished that all history books were written like this: straightforward, well-organized, just literary enough to be pleasant and engaging.

A few dozen centuries of Russian history, all within the span of 250 pages: A remarkable achievement really. I was left with the impression that all the major incidents, movements, personalities, etc. were all covered in only as much detail as I really wanted. Yet he found time for a few paragraphs each on Tchaikowsky, Pushkin and Dostoyevsky, among others.

For anyone interested in learning what happened in that vast area from the days BCE through Putin, without getting too bogged down in the mud (!), this volume is excellent.

Highest marks.

A Brief History of Russia betrays the title word "brief" at least in the depths of its content. I read it for an overview and ended up with an education. Each step in Russia's history revealed how it became the country we grew up hearing about.
I read with empathy about a people who rarely witnessed true freedom. Through it I appreciated yet more the liberty I have experienced.
