A well written book with an excellent coverage of credit products from theoretical and practical perspectives

This book helped me a lot with my studies in finance. The problem with most books is that they don't cover the topics from a practitioner's perspective. As I am currently working at my first job in the financial market (risk management), much of the examples shown in this book has helped me to grasp the mechanics hands on, beyond the theoretical. The book serves (of course) also as an excellent reference to credit products. I currently own 3 books from Mr. Choudhry and every one of them is full of practical examples with Bloomberg terminal screenshots to better understand the topic discussed from a practitioners perspective and without forgetting the theoretical explanations.

To summarize, I would recommend this book for anyone still studying or working in the banking market.

Exceptionally brilliant book for practitioners' perspectives

Hats off to Moorad for writing this exceptionally brilliant book which is very handy and really helpful for practitioners. The basket CDO and Copula (Gaussian and Student's t...etc.) is very well defined with all possible illustrations which is use in industry. And moreover, the accompanied CD which has lot of illustrations coded in VBA which makes this topic self-read and learn. I found this book a single source of reference on structure credit products that covers pricing, its characteristics, operational aspects, embedded risk, VBA code ....etc.in one place.

[...] The author gives frequent interesting hints on recent developments of mathematics connected to the concepts which are introduced. The Introduction also contains comments that are very unusual in a book on mathematical analysis, going from pedagogy to critique of the French scientific-military-industrial complex, but the sequence of ideas is introduced in such a way that readers are less surprised than they might be.

John Maxwell is a nationally known motivational speaker and author whose books have sold over 24 million copies. He is the founder of The John Maxwell Company, The John Maxwell Team, and EQUIP, a nonprofit organization that has trained more than five million leaders in 180 countries. In each chapter, Maxwell highlights the leadership scenario for which each biblical character is most well-known and then offers life lessons, a prayer from the leader to the reader, and leadership lessons, followed by a discussion guide that includes questions for the readers and suggested scripture readings.

Since each leader on which Maxwell focuses has unique gifts and talents that make him or her particularly suited for the role that God gave them, he points out and capitalizes on these various strengths.

One of the strongest elements of Maxwell’s text is that it doesn’t simply sugarcoat each biblical leader and only highlight his or her strong points. Rather, he allows readers to see their weaknesses as well and then gives evidence about how God used each person despite their character flaws. Beautiful book, great pictures

Beautiful book, great pictures. I have been around birds all my life - this guy has them down cold. The captions on the pictures are hysterical. If you like birds, this guy is for you. It seems he understands the personality of all those birds because the captions really make sense for the bird it represents! Very funny. Great gift for birders.

Matt Adrian's paintings are beautiful and quirky at the same time. I never knew bird pictures could be so entertaining. His 'titles' are short comments that are clever, amusing and make you think a bit.

Frank Fahy has been teaching and researching at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, Southampton, England, for nearly forty years. He is Emeritus Professor of Engineering Acoustics, signifying both his training and professionalmotivation. He is a Rayleigh Medal holder and Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Acoustics.

Useful book for practical work on vibration and acoustics

I work as acoustic consultant, primarily with noise and vibration simulation.
I recommend the book as it has helped me out on a few occasions where I needed to look into new things with which I had not previously worked. It is also useful when there is a need to reference matters you are familiar with, but want the detailed equations or the background assumptions restated.
Having to solve practical problems, I especially appreciate that the author includes references to other work and, more importantly lists `rules of thumbs' that lead to sensible designs. Such recommendations have saved valuable time and money for me.
So, the scope of the book goes beyond that of teaching. It is quite a useful book also for practical work.

Exceptionally well written, good as a supplementary text

This is Fahy's "Introductory" Acoustics text. He has several other publications in vibration and vibroacoustics (structural acoustics) that establish him as one of the more prolific current authors for acoustics curriculum.

As a graduate student, I find that Fahy's writing style really helps explain what is physically happening in basic acoustic scenarios, such as plane waves, spherical waves, scattering, refraction, reflection, sound in waveguides, sources of sound, etc. The writing is both interesting and fluent. In this manner, It is a nearly perfect companion text to other introductory texts who may favor a more equation-driven approach (such as the standards of Kinsler & Frey or Pierce). Fahy has some unique features in this book, including a list of possible experiments to demonstrate acoustic concepts (some experiments are mediocre, some are really good if you have an FFT analyzer handy).

That being said, the end-of-chapter questions are limited but thoughtful (usually fewer than 10 per chapter). There may be a slight favor towards structural acoustics rather than other fields. Notably absent are sections on hearing perception and applications in underwater acoustics. Again, no text can be perfect, but this is a great companion text to understand basic concepts in acoustics.

'Sounds' like a winner

This textbook was helpful in communicating the basic principles of engineering acoustics. Several errors, (k^2 missing in numerator of equation 6.14, page 109) but generally a good reference when coupled with good teaching. Includes around 8-10 problems after each chapter with solutions in the back.
